Being that I was born on Mother’s Day (by the way…isn’t that the best day to be born?); I can’t help but notice Mother Day sales. However, the one that was just emailed me today I found rather disturbing. It was a mother-daughter sale on Botox and other injectables such as Restylane and Juvederm. I know there are mother’s and daughter’s who are both old enough for Botox, but quite frankly I felt this advertisement was targeted to younger Mom’s which in turn means the daughters would be younger as well.

There is a new trend in women in their 20’s starting Botox and other injectibles looking at it as a preventative measure in anti-aging. Which I suppose has some validity because the more you squint and move those facial muscles the more apt the wrinkles will appear; and so the rationale being the less you squint and move those muscles the less likely to develop those same wrinkles.

Problem is; at least for me, it’s weird! They don’t need it. Any treatment can have side effects and what they should be concentrating on is good skincare and sunscreen. That in of itself will keep the premature aging at bay. And even more advantageous is to not start smoking or quit if you already do. Almost anyone you see at reunions and events over the years that looked as if they aged significantly are smokers and sun worshippers. So no matter your age, look to a healthy diet and lifestyle and a good skincare regimen and you will end up with younger looking skin without starting a premature relationship with Botox.
