Great Skin for the Happy Traveler
I just got back from Europe and now am reminded of just how hard air travel is on the skin. The dry air, the fatigue and jet lag as well as stepping out of our usual regimen can take a real toll on the complexion. After experiencing all of this recently, I decided to put together a list of dos and don’ts that can make the process a little more bearable with minimal effort.
1. Drink lots of water – Skin is always at its best when the body is properly hydrated so drink up and steer clear of alcoholic and caffeinated beverages that can actually cause dehydration. Lots of water can also help shake jet lag with leads to better sleep which in turn makes for better skin. If you’re worried about disturbing your seat partner running to the bathroom, ask for an aisle seat.
2. Keep the skin hydrated – Regularly spritzing the face with mineral water can help the skin from drying out. Evian Spray Purse/Travel Size Spray is small enough to take on airplanes and can be used anytime it’s needed. In addition to the face, the hands also tend to suffer from airline dryness. L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream Trio contains travel size hand creams that are perfect for airplanes.
3. Avoid makeup – This is a difficult rule for those of us that don’t like to be seen in public without our full faces on but you’ll be in a situation where you can’t easily remove your makeup and this can lead to problems. Eye makeup in particular can end up on your face and in your eyes, causing irritation. If you have to wear foundation to camouflage imperfections, stick to non-comedogenic formulas like mineral foundations. Colorescience Suncanny Foundation Brush SPF 20 provides great coverage in a non pore-clogging formula with much needed sun protection when flying above the clouds. The brush makes it easy to reapply as needed.
4. Use cleansing cloths or wipes - When traveling, it’s important to keep the skin free of impurities, especially if you’re prone to breakouts. Because it’s difficult to thoroughly cleanse, use cleaning cloths or wipes to remove oil, dirt and makeup. This won’t provide a complete cleanse but it will tide you over. Skyn ICELAND Glacial Cleansing Cloths do a great job at removing impurities while also hydrating the skin.
Taking a few simple steps can help keep your skin in good shape during and after your travels.
