7 Olive Oil Ageless Skin Treatments

Olive oil has been used for centuries to treat skin complaints and improve the general condition of the skin. Olive oil contains many nutrients that can help the skin to maintain its elasticity and youthful appearance. Here are 7 olive oil anti-aging treatments you can make at home as well as the best products you can purchase if you don’t have the time to do so or prefer to buy from a professional skin care brand. Either way, they are amazing in terms of results oriented anti-aging skincare.

Nourishing Bath Soak
Add one cup of olive oil and 5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil to a hot bath for a luxurious soak that will leave your skin feeling soft and supple. For a relaxing bath, use a calming essential oil like lavender or chamomile.
Alternatively, for less than $25 you can buy Archipelago Botanicals Boticario Bath Oil for a refreshing and highly hydrating soak in the tub.

Exfoliating Face Scrub
Mix one teaspoon of fine sugar with one tablespoon of olive oil for an exfoliating face scrub to remove dead skin cells. Massage the mixture into your face using small circular motions, taking care to avoid the delicate eye area. Rinse the mixture off with tepid water and pat your face dry with a soft towel.
Or simply use one of the professional scrubs from the ARCONA line called ARCONA Golden Grain Gommage. The product is an effective enzymatic exfoliant that will leave your skin nourished, smoother, brighter and clarified. It can even be used by those with sensitive skin.

Moisturizing Face Mask
Mix together one tablespoon of olive oil, one teaspoon of honey, and one egg yolk to make a moisturizing face mask to soften your skin. Apply the mixture to your face, avoiding the area around the eyes, and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse the mask off with tepid water.
This is the one item I would purchase rather than make in my kitchen. It’s not that the homemade recipe isn’t effective, but it’s a tad messy and doesn’t feel all that comfortable.  I use Aromatherapy Associates Anti-Age Overnight Repair Mask which intensely moisturizes and effectively plumps and smoothes fine lines and wrinkles.

Conditioning Hair Treatment
Mix half a cup of olive oil with ten drops of sandalwood essential oil and two egg yolks. Work the mixture through your hair, from root to tip. Cover your hair with a shower cap or warm towel and leave for 20-30 minutes. Rinse out thoroughly and use a mild shampoo to remove any traces of the mixture.
The other option would be to try Oscar Blandi Trattamento di Jasmine Smoothing Hair Treatment. This super hair conditioning treatment seals the cuticle and eliminates frizz while deeply nourishing your tresses.

Strengthening Nail Soak
Add 2-3 drops of lavender essential oil to a small dish of olive oil and soak your fingernails for 5-10 minutes. Use the treatment weekly to promote healthy fingernails and treat problematic or brittle nails. This treatment also softens the cuticles to allow for easier removal.
Alternatively, you may want to use the mega cuticle and nail olive and avocado formulation from SpaRitual! It’s an amazing revitalizing cream for achieving youthful, gorgeous hands and nails. It’s called SpaRitual Cuti-Quench Cuticle and Skin Conditioning Crème and its brilliant and five star rated!

Softening Foot Treatment
Olive oil makes an excellent foot treatment for use on hard skin, cracked skin, rough skin, and even fungal infections. Before going to bed at night, apply a thick layer of olive oil to your feet and cover with a pair of cotton socks. If you are having problems with fungal infections between your toes or under your nails, add 1-2 drops of tea tree essential oil to 1-2 teaspoons of olive oil and apply directly to the area.
But if you don’t have a fungal infection or the time to whip up the recipe yet still desire an outstanding soak that treats dry, scaly and rough skin of the feet, opt for Lisa Hoffman’s Spa Bath Soak which not only contains healing olive oil but also contains jasmine, orange and bergamot.

Topical Dry Skin Treatment
Olive oil can also be used as a topical treatment to treat patches of dry, scaly, or flaky skin. Apply a generous layer of olive oil to any problematic areas and massage thoroughly into the skin.
I prefer to use Aromatherapy Associates Enrich Massage and Body Oil because it smells sensational with olive, macadamia, and coconut oils as well as other exotic scents.
