Style Watch – What’s Trending in Fashion?
We’ve all seen fashion trends come and go and circle right back around again only to bite us in the seat of our pretty new pants. Whether it’s dress and skirt hemlines, jean rises and lengths, and cropped tops and long blouses OR fashion inspired trends from movies and media, we’ve all either succumbed to them or have at least watched the many changes and resurrections as they transpire. Lately, I’ve been pondering how the many fashion trends I’ve witnessed in my own life have not only come and gone, but have come right back again. I used to love watching shows like I Love Lucy and have often thought over the years…I sure wish those little cropped pencil pants would come back; or conversely, have hoped and prayed that the 70’s style from shows like The Brady Bunch would not!
But the bottom line is whether we loved the styles from our past, or we despised them…the one thing we can almost certainly count on is that they will indeed crop up their pretty or ugly little heads once again. And this fall season is of no exception!
I’m not sure if it’s still a trickle down effect from the royal wedding or simply because all eyes have been on London over the last few months with the London 2012 games, but the one thing that does seem to be clear…is that the Brits have certainly inspired us for the Fall 2012 fashion season.
The runways are abounding with materials and styles that boast hip and chic UK style. The season’s clothes are constructed with materials like leather, hound’s-tooth, chic silks and crisp cotton. The styles are typically tailored to be snuggly fit or are largely loose and are oftentimes a paradox of femininity and feminism. Colors are either monochrome in all white or equally paired with other solids such as charcoal or black; or they’re vibrantly shocking and oftentimes what we may consider deliberately mismatched, in terms of the norm. My favorite look so far has been the pairing of a sleek white suit with jackets of fur and leather in brown tones.
English inspired fashion this season consists of everything ranging from regal or royal feminine looks to an outdoor rugged huntsman type couture to a perfectly clad Iron Lady inspiration.
If you’re desirous of achieving the look of the Isles…be sure and take note of the must-have list below!
Fall Fashion Check-list:
Leather boots and gloves
Fur coat (and yes…faux is more than fine!)
Tights (various solid colors)
Wool Skirt
White tailored blouse (crisp cotton with a small percentage of poly blend)
Brightly colored bag and scarf
Soft, silky capped sleeved dress (in pink, salmon, or nude tones)
