Eyelash Extensions – Benefits and Downsides
Nothing makes for a prettier face than a pair of peepers completely framed by long, thick gorgeous eyelashes. However, since it’s extremely rare to be naturally blessed with them, many of us use lash enhancement products such as mascara, lash plumping serums and gels, eyelash dye, or even false eyelashes to get that dazzling and captivating big bold lashes look. Many feel that mascara isn’t quite enough to get the job done, however, they may also dislike the idea of false eyelashes, as they can look…well…false. They desire big gorgeous voluminous lashes but don’t want them to look fake and superficial. Luckily, there is indeed another option for obtaining, sporting and batting big long beautiful lashes.
Eyelash extensions are the perfect alternative. They look beautiful, feel comfortable and appear very natural. Lash extensions offer length, volume, fullness and thickness to both sparse and thin lashes as well as normal lashes. Some wear them for added daily confidence while others use them for special occasions. Either way, eyelash extensions are a very viable option and are definitely here to stay!
Lash extensions are considered pricey and cost in the neighborhood of $125 to $200 for a full set depending on the type you choose. They are typically a set of single lashes which are essentially glued to your single natural lashes, but can come in a variety of types, lengths, diameter and curl. After your consult, the esthetician usually asks you to sit back or even lie back flat on the facial chair or table and primes your natural lashes and then strategically and meticulously applies single lashes (one at a time) until the desired outcome is achieved. Most often, women are absolutely thrilled with their new gorgeous eyes and lashes, however, eyelash extensions do have some drawbacks as well.
Obviously, eyelash extensions only last as long as each individual natural lash (or eyelash cycle) does. As you probably know, our real lashes shed (just like the hair on our head) and therefore it makes sense that salon visits for eyelash fills are inevitable and will be necessary for maintenance should you decide to keep them long term. Additionally, the lashes need special attention and you will find that you may not be able to clean your eyes (or eye makeup) like you did before the enhancement and rubbing your eyes is a definite no-no!
My conclusion: For those who know what they’re about to embark on and have decided to go ahead with the lavish treatment…I’d probably have to say…”At the end of the day…eyelash extensions are a great option, particularly for special occasions!”
