Dieting? Why Choose Greek Yogurt?

There are many reasons why one should choose Greek yogurt when perusing the dairy foods aisle in the grocery store. Greek yogurt not only tastes a heck of a lot better, it is also substantially better for you. And not just in one area, but categorically speaking as well. Greek yogurt is thicker, creamier and provides a higher level of satiation. It also contains double the protein and half the sodium. Those three things alone are enough to convert even the pickiest of yogurt enthusiasts…but there’s even more to this yummy dessert-like good-for-you nosh!

Greek yogurt not only tastes great alone, it’s also a great dairy substitute in many recipes where you may have typically used milk or sour cream in the past. Recipes tend to burst with flavor and richness when they’ve been prepared with Greek yogurt. When eaten as plain yogurt (meaning…with a spoon!) you will find that you’ll probably feel much more satisfied as compared to the feeling of satiation (or lack of) of non-Greek or traditional yogurt.

As mentioned, Greek yogurt contains a great deal of protein which is most likely the reason for helping you feel full and satisfied, not to mention the many other attributes of a protein enriched food. Greek yogurt contains anywhere from 13 to 20 grams of protein whereas conventional yogurt typically contains approximately 5 to 10 grams. This lower sodium content is just yet another perk to eating delicious and healthy Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt is said to contain 50% less sodium and with so many people on sodium restricted diets it’s great to know that there is something out there that is delicious and an option for those on low-sodium diets.

Greek yogurt is also lower in carbohydrates, easy to digest (because it has less lactose) and best of all has an amazing rich and thick consistency. With all these attributes, I can’t imagine why anyone would choose anything but Greek yogurt!
