Spring Fashion 2014 - Precious Pastels

This spring, the blossoming flowers won't be the only pops of color that you'll see when you're out and about on a daily basis. Spring 2014 fashion is all about the pastel with shades of yellow, pink, peach, lavender, mint green and light blue showing up in couture and designer collections of apparel and accessories. If your wardrobe is full of black basics, you may be hesitant to try out this spring trend, but you can pull off a pastel look by following these tips:

- Mix with Darks.
When you're choosing pastel pieces, keep light colors in areas where you are the thinnest and shapeliest. Darker colors have a slimming effect, so you can strategically use them for trouble zones. For example, if you're pear shaped, try a pretty pastel blouse or a lightweight spring sweater in a pastel hue with a black or charcoal gray pencil skirt for a figure-flattering ensemble.

- Trim It Up. Another great way to incorporate pastels is to find pieces that are black, gray or brown with trim or accents in the season's hot shades. You'll find many options from blazers to dresses to skirts with piping, lace and graphics in pastel hues shown with neutrals.

- Tie It On. Invest in a pretty pastel silk scarf to add a splash of seasonal color to your favorite ensembles. Pick a color that flatters your natural undertones since the scarf will be close to your face. Mint green, peach, and yellow will look lovely with warmer complexions, while pink, lavender and baby blue will complement cooler undertones.

- Show-Off Shoes. A pair of ballet flats, heels or sandals in a pastel hue will put a pop of color on an outfit and have you looking fashion forward. You'll find a variety of pastel footwear choices in different heel heights and styles on the shelves this season.

- Shimmery Shadows. The pastel trend doesn't just apply to fashion. Pastel eye shadows are also hot for Spring 2014. Be sure to choose one that is a good complement for your skin tone and that contrasts with your eye color for gorgeous results.

You don't need to go out and buy an entirely pastel hued wardrobe to look chic this spring. Take an inventory of what you currently have in your closet and find places where you could use new pieces. Need a lightweight spring coat? Pick a pastel. Short on tees for summer? Purchase some pastel-hued shirts for layering. By being smart about what you add to your closet, you can get the cute spring look while spending wisely.
