In the past when I've tried self-tanners, I've found that my skin retains an odd odor for the life of the tan. Has anyone experienced this as well? Are there products that eliminate this unpleasant smell?

I've noticed that smell with the supermarket or drugstore brands I've tried before, but I never notice it when I go with a higher end brand. Many cosmeceutical companies now offer great self-tanners within their line. I have a couple of favorites but numero uno for me would have to be Pevonia Self -Tanning Emulsion.
